
Walnut, Calif., December 3, 2005 – A.J. Acosta of Oceanside, Calif., and Jordan Hasay of Arroyo Grande, Calif., won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCCC) West Regional at Mount San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) in Walnut, Calif., today.In the boys' race, a pack of twenty runners separated themselves from the field for the first three miles. A group of eight runners, led by Acosta, a senior from El Camino High School, and Benjamin Sitler, a senior from Albuquerque, N.M. placed third in 15:42.In the girls' race, a pack of four runners dominated the field including three-time FLCCC National Qualifier Marie Lawrence and newcomer Jordan Hasay, a freshman from Mission College Prep., hitting the one-mile mark in 5:20. Hasay overtook Lawrence, a junior at Reno High School and the 2004 FLCCC defending West Regional Champion, at 1.5 miles. Hasay completely broke away from the pack after 2.5 miles, taking a commanding lead to claim the Championship in 17:14. 
Marie Lawrence, second place finisher at both the 2003 and 2004 FLCCC National Finals, finished second with a time of 17:38, followed by Megan O'Reilly of Colbert, Wash., with a time of 17:52.The runners enjoyed good racing conditions, with temperatures in the low 60s and sunny skies. The course was slightly muddy from rain the previous evening.The top eight boys and top eight girls from the FLCCC West regional qualified for the National Finals, with the remaining two spots for the top finishers from the Foot Locker West region at the Nike Team Nationals (NTN). A total of 10 boys and 10 girls from the West regional will compete against runners from three other regional meets in the 27th Annual Foot Locker Cross Country Championships National Finals, which will take place on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Balboa Park in San Diego, Calif.
Kenny Klotz and Taylor Nepon qualified from the NTN Race by being the first finishers from the Foot Locker Cross Country West Region in the NTN race. Anne St. Geme and Cassie Ricks qualified for the FLCC National Championships in the Girls NTN race.The NTN race was held the same day as the FLCC West Region.
